Sergios Agapiou is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Cyprus. He completed his undergraduate studies at the National Technical University of Athens (B.Sc. in Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences, University medal for graduating first in class, 2009) and his postgraduate studies at the University of Warwick (M.Sc. in Mathematics 2010, Ph.D. in Mathematics, 2013). He has worked at the Mathematics Institute of the University of Warwick (Postdoctoral Research Fellow, 2013-2014), at the Department of Statistics of the University of Warwick (Postdoctoral Research Fellow, 2014-2015) and at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Cyprus (Lecturer, 2015-2019, Assistant Professor, 2019-present). His research interests are on the interface of Differential Equations and Statistics and in particular he is interested in Bayesian nonparametric Statistics with an emphasis on inverse problems. He studies both theoretical questions, such as the asymptotic performance of posterior distributions in the infinitely-informative data limit, as well as computational questions, such as the design and analysis of sampling algorithms in high dimensions. He is a founding member and former member of the board of the Cyprus Statistical Society. He is currently serving as chair of the Program Council and member of the Prize Committee of the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (bayesian.org).
