Results, Student Innovators Competition – SINN2021

The 3rd Student Innovators Competition of the University of Cyprus was successfully held on Wednesday April 14 2021

The 3rd Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition of the University of Cyprus “Student Innovators”- SINN2021 was completed with great success and
broad participation on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. The competition was held online and broadcasted live in Facebook and YouTube.

Student Innovators is organized every year by the Center for Entrepreneurship and the Department of Business and Public Administration of the University of Cyprus, attracts students who attend courses on Entrepreneurship and brings together “multi-departmental” teams with early stage business ideas with innovation potential and/or creative twist.

For the competition 22 applications were submitted from which 7 were selected to present to the competition day. The competition was prefaced by the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and co-Director of the Master in Data Science of the University of Cyprus, Associate Professor Panos Markopoulos, and presented by the Associate Professor of the Department of Business and Public Administration Alexia Panagiotou. The panel of judges was consisted by Konstantina Ioannou
Senior Associate at PwC Cyprus, Angela Panayiotou Manager IDEA Innovation Center, Panos Pachatouridis Chief Technology Officer at Hellenic Hypermarkets Sklavenitis S.A., Michael Tyrimos Founder / Managing Director of Capacitor Partners and Andreas Papadopoulos Strategic Development Director of the Hellenic Bank.

The first prize was awarded to “Mediphast Pharmacy On Wheels” team consisting by Amasgo Angelidi, Anna Raunich and Marina Hadjifilippou from the Department of Business and Public Administration and Nicolas Martoudes from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “Mediphast” is is a Mobile Pharmacy Service with a customized truck offering 24h delivery service.

The second prize was received by the “Soundbreaker” team with Dimosthenis Vamvourellis from the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Konstantinos Paphitis from the Computer Science Department and Andria Maria Papageorgiou from Department of Accounting and Finance. Their idea is about the development of a group of devices that will be positioned throughout a library and other public spaces, in which noise is required to be kept down, in order to detect sound / noise.

“ELEUTHO Diagnostics” team that was awarded the third prize presented their research on the formation of diagnostics tools that will focus on the employment of Artificial Intelligence models of the prediction of preterm labor. The team is consisted by Eleni Tovletian and Konstantina Ioulietta Christodoulidou from the Department of Business and Public Administration and Rafail Frixou, Georgios Pafitis and Panayiotis Procopi from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

During the competition the Centre for Entrepreneurship presented appreciation awards to student teams that excelled in other Entrepreneurship competitions in 2020. Team “Fooderloo” that was awarded the 1st prize at Digital Championship Competition and team “AID4ALL” that won the 1st place at the JA European StartUp competition were presented by Dr. Daina Nicolaou, Special Teaching Staff at the Department of Business and Public Administration.

For the Rectors’ Honorary Awards, this year each of the 3 winning teams received 1-year license subscriptions (for 5 users each) for Proto.io and Overflow.
